Sunil Chhetri and Wife Sonam Bhattacharya Welcome Baby Boy
Indian football star Sunil Chhetri and his wife, Sonam Bhattacharya, celebrated the arrival of their first child on Thursday, August 31, in Bengaluru. Both Sonam and the newborn are reported to be in good health. Notably, Sonam faced challenges during her pregnancy due to a diagnosis of dengue.
Chhetri had shared the news of their pregnancy in a unique way, using a goal celebration during an Intercontinental Cup match in June. He scored a goal against Vanatua and celebrated by tucking the ball under his shirt, signaling toward Sonam in the stands.
Chhetri and Sonam got married in 2017 after knowing each other for a long time before tying the knot. Sonam Bhattacharya is the daughter of legendary footballer Subrata Bhattacharya.
Chhetri’s Remarkable Year in Football
Sunil Chhetri, the Indian football sensation, has been in outstanding form in 2023. Known for his exceptional goal-scoring ability and leadership, Chhetri has consistently proven himself as one of the best players in international football.
In the current year, Chhetri has led the Indian national team to several victories. India clinched the Intercontinental Cup in June and followed it up with a triumph in the SAFF Championship in July.
Chhetri is currently on a break from football due to the birth of his child and will miss the King’s Cup in Thailand in September, as confirmed by coach Igor Stimac. However, he is expected to return for India’s Asian Games campaign later in the month.
The Kings Cup 2023, set to be held in Thailand, will see the Indian team facing tough competition from some of Asia’s top teams. The tournament serves as crucial preparation for the Indian team ahead of the AFC Asian Cup in 2023.
