Kannada actress and anchor Aparna Vastre, known for her golden voice and cheerful personality, died on Thursday. She was 57 years old. Cancer took her life. Born in Panchanahalli in Kadur taluk of Chikkamagaluru, Aparna grew up in Bengaluru, where her father was a film journalist in a Kannada publication. Aparna soon developed an interest in music, literature and culture. She started her career with the 1985 Kannada film 'Masnada Hoovu'. She worked with 'Rebel Star' Ambareesh. In the 1990s, Aparna started working as a radio jockey in All India Radio and as an anchor in DD Chandana.

Kannada film and theatre actress Padmaja Rao, who has worked with Aparna in several serials, said she was shocked by her friend's death. “We have not met for a year. I am not even able to grieve. I am not even able to cry,” Padmaja told DH.

Aparna is survived by her husband Nagaraj Vastre. The couple lived in Banashankari II Stage. Speaking to reporters, Nagaraj said Aparna was suffering from lung cancer, which was detected in July two years ago. She was in the fourth stage.
