Sometimes a cylinder on the railway track, sometimes an iron rod… who wants to harm the railways?

New Delhi : Near Bilhaur railway station in Kanpur, UP, the loco pilot of Kalindi Express applied emergency brakes after seeing an LPG cylinder placed by unknown people on the track. This averted a major accident. The train was going from Prayagraj to Bhiwani. It was fortunate that the cylinder did not get stuck in the engine and explode, otherwise a major accident could have occurred. The train could have derailed due to sudden emergency braking. Apart from the damaged cylinder, many suspicious things including a bottle filled with petrol and matchsticks were also recovered near the incident spot. Police say that a conspiracy was hatched to derail the train. Police have detained two people in this case.

This is not the first incident of conspiracy

This is not the first incident of such conspiracy on the railway track. In the last few months, incidents of trains derailing have been reported in different parts of the country. In these incidents, heavy objects are being deliberately placed on the tracks with the intention of disrupting rail operations. On August 17 last month, 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express train going to Ahmedabad between Kanpur and Bhimsen Junction of Jhansi Railway Division derailed. This accident also allegedly happened after hitting a heavy object placed on the tracks by some anti-social elements. The driver told that a big stone hit the engine of the train, due to which the 'cattle guard' installed in its front part to protect from animals got badly damaged and bent.
