CBSE has given an important instruction to schools. In a notice issued on September 27, CBSE has asked all schools to make it mandatory to install CCTV cameras in all their examination halls. This instruction has been sent to the principals and headmasters of all CBSE schools. It is clearly written in the notice that the board examinations of class 10th and 12th will be held only in those rooms where CCTV cameras are installed. If CCTV cameras are not installed in any school then that school will not be considered as an examination centre. This rule will be applicable from the board examinations of 2025.
CBSE has said that this year around 44 lakh students will appear in the 10th and 12th board examinations. CBSE has made this CCTV policy to conduct the examinations of such a large number of students in a smooth and fair manner. Under this policy, all schools will have to install high-resolution CCTV cameras. These cameras should be such that the activities of the students and the examination material are clearly visible.

Additionally, schools will have to preserve the examination hall recordings for at least two months after the declaration of class 10th and 12th results. This is being done so that CBSE can examine these recordings if needed. Only authorized persons will be able to view these recordings. CBSE has also directed that the cameras should have the facility of pan, tilt and zoom so that a particular area or student can be monitored.
It is noteworthy that CBSE will not bear the cost of CCTV cameras. Students and their parents will also be informed about this. Schools have been advised to inform students and parents about this through orientation sessions, handbooks and notice boards. Also, they should keep taking feedback from students, employees and examination officials so that the system can be improved. In each examination centre, one person for 10 rooms or 240 students will be appointed for monitoring during the examination.
