Shashi Tharoor got into trouble for calling Swati Maliwal case a gossip, BJP said- the statement will cost him dearly

New Delhi: There has been an uproar over the statement of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the Swati Maliwal assault case. Tharoor termed the matter as 'gossip'. He said that there are many other issues in the country, they (government) want people to remain entangled in these gossips and controversies. After Tharoor's statement, BJP became the attacker. BJP leaders reacted sharply to Tharoor's statement. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that this statement will prove costly for Tharoor.

'They want people to get caught up in gossip'
Speaking to a private channel, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, let us forget the real issues of our country which the people of our country want and get trapped in these gossips and controversies. I will not play this game. Earlier he had also said that Kejriwal's silence on this issue is not important. Issues of common people matter more in Lok Sabha elections. Shashi Tharoor said that this matter is being blown out of proportion to divert attention from many important issues going on in the country like unemployment and inflation.

BJP hit back
After this statement of Tharoor, BJP came on the front foot. Union Minister and BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri said that Shashi Tharoor worked in the United Nations for so many years, would you say that the issue of women empowerment is not important. Atishi also said the same thing. Those who themselves are saying that this is not an important issue should be ashamed. Puri said, remember this, this statement is going to cost you very heavily. No one will tolerate injustice towards women.

What is the whole matter?
Let us tell you that Aam Aadmi Party's Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has alleged that she was assaulted at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on May 13. Swati has made serious allegations of assault and indecency against Kejriwal's PA Bibhav Kumar and has also lodged an FIR against him. Delhi Police had also arrested Bibhav Kumar from CM House. Whereas Aam Aadmi Party has denied Swati's allegations. AAP leader Atishi has alleged that Swati Maliwal is doing all this at the behest of BJP.
