Renuka Shahane is an Indian actress, best known for her role of Pooja Choudhary Nath in the famous classic film 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'. The actress often uses social media to create awareness about several matters. Recently, she opened up about her childhood struggle with menstruation. During a chat, the famous TV and film actress recalled her periods when she was 10 years old. Talking about menstruation and the taboos around it in society on the We Are Yuva podcast, Renuka Shahane revealed that she had her first period when she was 10 years old. Sharing this, she said, 'I am 58 years old today and I have spent most of my life with periods.'

She said that she had very little physical pleasure in her childhood because of her periods. Since she could not understand what was happening to her body, her mother helped her.

Renuka said, 'I was lucky because in my case my mother had made a diagram to explain how it works. I was lucky because at my home they used to discuss all this very openly. I could not understand what was happening and what was the reason behind it. However, people around assured that it was nothing bad.'
I felt lonely
In the same interview, the actress recalled feeling lonely in school because she couldn't talk to her friends about her menstruation. She said that none of her friends in her class got their periods for the next three years. So, they had to wait until they got their periods to share things. She felt very lonely.
The effect on children
However, Renuka admits that it does have some impact on the children psychologically as no one knows about the way they are growing up. Also, no one talks about it in school either.
