New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In this, the Congress MP has urged to increase the amount of compensation for the victims of the stampede in Hathras. He has demanded strict punishment for those responsible for this incident. In a letter to Adityanath, the former Congress President said that compensation should be given as soon as possible and the injured should be provided proper treatment. There was a stampede in the satsang of preacher 'Bhole Baba' in Hathras on Tuesday. A total of 121 people died in this, most of whom were women.
Rahul Gandhi met the victim families of the Hathras incident on Friday. Now the Congress leader has written a letter to UP CM Yogi Adityanath demanding an increase in the compensation amount for the victim families. Adityanath had announced that the families of the deceased would be given Rs 2 lakh each and the injured would be given Rs 50,000 each. Rahul Gandhi said in his letter to Adityanath on July 6 that the compensation announced by the Uttar Pradesh government is inadequate. I urge that the compensation amount be increased and it should be given as soon as possible.
The Congress leader said that the injured should be given proper treatment and proper compensation. He said that I am shocked by the news of the death of more than 120 people in the stampede incident in Hathras. I am writing this letter to you with pain in my heart and I know that you must be feeling that pain too. Rahul Gandhi said that he met many victim families of Aligarh and Hathras districts and tried to share their pain. He said in a letter to CM Yogi that the accident is so tragic that while meeting the family, I fell short of words for consolation. It is not possible to compensate for what many families have lost in this accident, but we can definitely try to reduce their pain by helping the victim families in every possible way.
The Congress leader said that the victim families also shared with me that the negligence and insensitivity of the local administration is responsible for this entire incident. A proper and transparent investigation of this case will not only be a step towards preventing such incidents in future, but it will also restore the faith of these victim families in the justice system. He said that from the point of view of justice also, it is necessary for the culprits to get severe punishment. In this hour of grief, it is the responsibility of all of us to support the victim families.
