Yadav said, 'I have become Pradhan ji, wherever I go people call me by this name. As if they have forgotten all the past things. Right now I am shooting in Banaras, so people are surprised where is this Pradhan ji roaming among us.' The series 'Panchayat' revolves around the daily struggles of the people in a village in Uttar Pradesh and recently its third season has been released. The praise he is getting for his acting in this series also worries him.

“I feel responsible, I shouldn't mess this up.”

In this series, Yadav has once again been presented to the audience as a lovable and a little confused Pradhan ji, who always looks forward to the people of his village but sometimes goes astray. He said in his latest interview, 'When all the seasons are over, then I will try to be happy, right now I am upset. I feel that this is a responsibility, I should not spoil it. I should not be too happy.'

'I had many such characters, I saw them all in my childhood'

He grew up in one such village in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Yadav said, 'The simplicity and spontaneity that is there in the village is still there and we have been successful in bringing it in this series. It seems that these characters come from real life. It does not seem that they have been created separately.' He said, 'I had many such characters, I have seen all this in my childhood, I have seen it in the days of theater, when I used to do Parsi theater, I used to see all this even then.'

'We used to be hungry but that hunger taught us a lot'

Recalling his theatre days, the actor said, “See, there is a way. After leaving home, I joined the Parsi theatre company run by Annu Kapoor's father. I worked there for six years. I used to get Rs 2.5 per day. Those were the best days of my life. We used to stay hungry but that hunger taught me a lot and I enjoy learning a lot. Even today, unless there is some discomfort, there is no fun.”

He honed his skills as an actor and singer

After Parsi theatre in Madhya Pradesh, Yadav studied at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi, where he spent 13 years as a member of the repertory company and honed his skills as an actor and singer. “Since childhood, it is my habit not to get too happy or sad about things. People give it many names, some call it struggle, but for me it is hard work. It motivates me. This life is a school where I get the emotions I need and the wealth of experience that comes with it is priceless,” he said.

'Everyone said that you will have to work so much that you will become a donkey'

He said, 'You get to learn a lot in theatre. I remember Ibrahim Al-Qazi sahab (former director of NSD) asked me what subject I wanted to specialise in. I said I wanted to learn everything. So he said okay, come to stagecraft. Everyone discouraged me saying that I would have to work so hard that I would become a fool. I said it doesn't matter. Stagecraft helped me a lot in my acting.'

'Even during theatre time, we lived like a family'

Neena Gupta, who plays his wife Manju Devi in 'Panchayat', recently posted a picture of both of them from their younger days, which went viral. On this, Yadav said, 'During NSD, we did a lot of plays together, she was three years younger than me. Perhaps this picture is from that time. Neena ji had it. Seeing this picture reminds me how much we have progressed. Even during the theatre days, we used to live like a family and even today we are like that. But now our experience reflects on our faces.'

Raghubir Yadav has done many movies and TV shows

Yadav started his film career with Massey Saheb. After this, he has worked in many films like 'Salaam Bombay!', 'Sooraj Ka Satvaan Ghoda', 'Dharavi', 'Maya Mensaab', 'Bandit Queen' and 'Saaz'. He has shown his acting skills in many films like 'Dil Se', 'Lagaan', 'Delhi 6', 'Peepli Live', 'Piku', 'Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar'.
