Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead a meeting with the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday, marking a crucial discussion just days before the official announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections schedule. The meeting follows the recent release of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) first list of candidates for the upcoming general elections.

The Council of Ministers gathering, scheduled for March 3, will take place at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave in New Delhi, as stated by officials.

Prime Minister Modi has been convening these ministerial meetings periodically to address significant policy matters, assess the implementation progress of various initiatives, and articulate his governance vision.

This session comes on the heels of the BJP unveiling its initial list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for April-May. The list includes prominent figures such as Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh.

Key Agenda for the Council of Ministers Meeting

The primary agenda for the Council of Ministers meeting on Sunday is anticipated to include:

  1. Election Strategy: Devising a comprehensive election strategy for the upcoming general elections, which involves planning, coordination, and resource allocation.
  2. Performance Review: Assessing the performance of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over the past two terms, with a focus on major achievements and areas needing improvement.

PM Modi’s Expectations

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi is expected to solicit feedback from Union ministers concerning the efficacy of various government welfare schemes and initiatives launched by the NDA in the past decade.

The BJP-led NDA government is expressing confidence in securing a third term in the Lok Sabha elections this year. To strategize for victory, the Prime Minister is convening this meeting with Union Ministers to evaluate the readiness for the impending polls.

The Election Commission has initiated a review of the states’ preparedness for the Lok Sabha elections. The schedule for the elections is anticipated to be announced later this month. In the past, the Election Commission declared the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections in 2014 on March 5, with results announced on May 16. Similarly, in 2019, the poll panel announced the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections on March 10, and the results were declared on May 23.
