ESMA imposed on petrol and diesel dealers in Assam
On the other hand, the Assam government has brought petroleum dealers and retailers under the Essential Services Maintenance (Assam) Act or ESMA in view of the strike called by their union. The government has also issued instructions to all district administrations to ensure smooth purchase and sale of petroleum and petroleum products and prevent any untoward incident.

An order issued by the Governor said that petroleum dealers and retail shops engaged in buying and selling of petroleum and petroleum products, including natural gas, will also be considered under sections that prohibit strikes under ESMA.
