Speaking on the matter, Akhtar Shaheen highlighted the current challenges and said, “In my opinion, even if the debt doubles to US$14 billion, Pakistan's situation will not improve unless the government, establishment And institutions do not decide to eliminate corruption. If we can eliminate corruption, we can effectively manage the available resources of Pakistan.

Corruption remains a major issue in Pakistan, affecting governance, economic growth, and public trust in institutions. Various reports indicate that corruption is deeply entrenched in many sectors, including politics, law enforcement and public services.

According to the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2022, Pakistan is ranked 140th out of 180 countries, reflecting widespread public perception of corruption in both the public and private sectors.

Shaheen also addressed the rising electricity rates in Pakistan, saying, 'The price of electricity is increasing day by day, causing an unbearable burden on the common people. People are driven to despair by selling their houses and lands. In rural areas, people are forced to sell their livestock to pay their bills. Is this the relief they are getting?”

In August, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced an increase in electricity tariff by PKR 2.56 per unit, ARY News reported. Pakistan is currently facing a severe power crisis due to frequent power cuts, rising costs and inadequate infrastructure. This situation poses significant challenges for households and businesses, leading to widespread public discontent.
