New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Karnataka High Court on the controversial remarks made by Justice Vedavyasachar Srishanand during a recent court hearing. Justice Srishanand, while addressing a landlord-tenant dispute, called a Muslim-dominated area of Bengaluru Pakistan and made misogynistic remarks about a female lawyer. A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud expressed the need to set clear guidelines for judges regarding their comments in court. The Supreme Court said that judges need to make clear rules for their conversation in court. The Chief Justice said that media reports have drawn attention to the comments made by a judge of the Karnataka High Court during court proceedings. We request the Karnataka High Court to submit a report after receiving instructions from the Chief Justice of the High Court. We can lay down some basic guidelines.
Chief Justice Chandrachud has ordered to submit the report within two days. The case is to be heard on Wednesday next week. Videos of Justice Srishanand are going viral on social media.
