This matter came up when many students complained that two different answers were given for a Physics question in different NCERT books. After this, the Supreme Court directed IIT-Delhi to investigate the matter on a petition. IIT-Delhi found in its investigation that only one option for the controversial question was correct.
Impact on admission of 16 thousand NEET students:
Earlier, NTA had considered both the options correct and had given marks to the students. But now after the report of IIT-Delhi, NTA has been forced to change its merit list. Five marks will be deducted from the students who choose the wrong option. Four marks will be given for the correct answer and one mark will be given as negative marking.
This will have the biggest impact on students ranked between 50,000 and 1 lakh. It is estimated that about 16,000 students will not be able to get admission in medical college due to this change.
An NTA official said, “Earlier 61 students had topped, but now after deduction of marks, only 17 students will remain toppers. After deduction of marks, the number of toppers will decrease from 61 to 17. However, there will be a slight difference in the rank of the 44 students who had earlier scored 720 out of 720 marks.”
