A writ has been filed in the Supreme Court under Article 32 on behalf of 8 candidates who appeared in the NEET exam. The NEET exam was held on May 5 and 24 lakh students had filled the form for it. The petition filed in the Supreme Court states that the NTA (National Testing Agency) has taken arbitrary and illegal action in this matter. The petition states that the numbers in the scorecards and OMR sheets of the students are different. These discrepancies have not happened due to grace numbers because students like the petitioner were not in the said center where the children got grace marks.

NEET 2024 Cancel: Demand to cancel NEET result

The petition filed in the Supreme Court states that this time the cutoff number and the average result have been unprecedented. 67 students have scored 720 out of 720 marks. Whereas usually only 3-4 students used to top. Six of these toppers are from just one center in Haryana. Some students have scored 718 and 719 marks and statistically this is questionable.

Also, the criteria for students getting grace marks due to lack of time was not disclosed. Also, there was no logic behind the grace marks given. The grace marks to be given due to lack of time and the provision of compensation have not been disclosed in the information bulletin.

NTA has made new rules after the exam and all this raises questions on the authenticity of the result. The petitioner has argued that the NEET result should be declared illegal and cancelled.

The Supreme Court has issued notice on all the petitions related to this. The Supreme Court has issued notice on various petitions filed in the case of NEET paper leak and irregularities. On Friday, the Supreme Court also issued notice on the petition demanding a CBI inquiry. The Supreme Court has fixed July 8 as the date for hearing on all the petitions.

NBT Lens: The scope of hearing is wide

When the matter first reached the Supreme Court, a stay was sought on the result alleging paper leak. But then on May 17, a bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud refused to stay the result but issued a notice in the matter. But later several other petitions were also filed regarding the paper leak of NEET UG 2024 and after the results were released, doubts were raised about six toppers from the same center and a total of 67 toppers.

There has been a demand for a CBI inquiry into the matter. Along with this, questions have also been raised on the grace number. Along with this, a plea for re-evaluation has also been made. In such a situation, the scope of hearing in this case has become quite wide. Although there is no ban on counseling, but during the hearing on July 8, all aspects will be heard in front of the Chief Justice.
