NCERT Book Update: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has made major changes in the political science books of class 11th and 12th. The portion from the demolition of Ayodhya Babri Masjid to the Gujarat riots (Godhra incident) has been changed. In the new book, these events have been mentioned in such a way that violence and riots cannot be highlighted. When asked why this was done? The director of NCERT clarified that 'teaching about riots can create violent and unhappy citizens.'

Its aim is to make children positive and not aggressive: NCERT

Rejecting the allegations of saffronisation of school curriculum, NCERT director Dinesh Prasad Saklani said, “Changes in books are part of annual revision. It should not be made a subject of protest. Everything is based on facts and evidence. Why should we teach about riots in school books? We want to create positive citizens, not violent and depressed people.”

Dinesh Saklani further said, 'Should we teach our students in such a way that they become aggressive? Create hatred in society or become a victim of hatred? Is this the purpose of education? Should we teach small children about riots? When they grow up, they can learn about it. But why should it be taught in school books? Let them understand when they grow up what happened and why. The purpose of our education is not to create violent and sad citizens. Hate and violence are not subjects to be taught. Opposing changes is absurd.'

The NCERT director said, 'There should not be so much uproar over the 1984 riots not being mentioned in books. If the Supreme Court has given a verdict in favour of Ram Mandir, Babri Masjid or Ram Janmabhoomi, then should it not be included in the books. What is the problem in this? If we have built a new Parliament, then shouldn't our students know about it? It is our duty to tell them this.'

NCERT's new book: Name of Babri Masjid removed

The most important change has been made in NCERT's Class 12 political science book. In this, the name of Babri Masjid has been removed and it has been described as a three-domed structure. The portion on Ayodhya has been reduced from four to two pages. The things that have been removed from the books include BJP's Rath Yatra from Somnath in Gujarat to Ayodhya, the role of kar sevaks, communal violence after the demolition of Babri Masjid, President's rule in BJP-ruled states and BJP's regret over the events of Ayodhya.
