Masood's captaincy remains intact, when will the decision be taken on Babar? What happened in the PCB meeting

New Delhi. Shan Masood will continue to captain the Pakistan Test team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and coach Jason Gillespie have expressed confidence in Shan Masood as the national team's Test captain ahead of a busy international season, but a decision on Babar Azam's captaincy in limited-overs cricket will be taken later. Pakistan is scheduled to host England in a three-match Test series in October this year, while it also faces Bangladesh, South Africa and West Indies.

The PCB held a meeting on Wednesday which was attended by senior board officials, national selectors, Jason Gillespie, white-ball coach Gary Kirsten, assistant coach Azhar Mahmood. And during this, the team's poor performance in the T20 World Cup was also discussed. A source in the know of developments said, “The meeting was held to discuss ways to prepare a comprehensive blueprint for the national team in red and white ball formats.” Masood, who took over as Test captain ahead of the Australia tour earlier this year, got full support.

He said, 'The meeting supported retaining Masood as the Test captain for the upcoming series against Bangladesh, England, South Africa and West Indies between August and January.' However, no decision was taken on Babar's white-ball captaincy. However, there was a lot of discussion on his performance as a captain and batsman. Shan Masood was made the captain of the Pakistan Test team in November last year.
