Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Monday reprimanded a lawyer. He asked the lawyer to lower his voice. He also asked whether he was addressing the judges or the people sitting in the gallery outside the court. The court was hearing the Kolkata rape-murder case. The bench hearing this case includes Chief Justice along with Justice Manoj Mishra and Justice JB Pardiwala.
Kapil Sibal made the allegation
During the arguments in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Kapil Sibal said that he has videos and photographs which show that lawyers pelted stones at the government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in protest against the incident of August 9. Lawyer Kaushal Bagchi is also a BJP leader. He left the Congress and joined the BJP earlier this year.

Chief Justice reprimanded
Reacting to Sibal's stone-pelting allegation, the counsel for the other side asked how a senior lawyer could make such statements in court? To this, the Chief Justice said, “Are you trying to address the people sitting in the gallery outside the court? I have been observing your conduct for the last two hours.” The Chief Justice further said, “Can you lower your voice first? Listen to the Chief Justice, lower your voice. You are addressing the three judges sitting in front of you, not the large audience watching these proceedings on the video conferencing platform.” After this, the lawyer apologized to the bench.
TMC also responded
TMC reacted to the Chief Justice's reprimand to lawyer Bagchi. He said, 'What else can we expect from such a loudmouth, half-time lawyer, full-time BJP worker, who thinks that the decorum of the court can be trampled upon like everything else in their rule? Today, the Hon'ble Chief Justice rightly reprimanded him for his misconduct.'
CBI directed to file new report
Later, when several lawyers started arguing on multiple issues, the Chief Justice remarked, “I am not used to this kind of pleading where 7-8 people are arguing at the same time.” The Supreme Court has asked the CBI to file a fresh report in the case by next Tuesday. The central agency today released the forensic report in the case and said who collected the samples has become a question. Solicitor General Mehta said the central agency has decided to send the samples to Delhi AIIMS.
The CBI said, “We have the forensic investigation report and one thing has been admitted that when the girl was found at 9:30 am, her jeans and undergarments were removed and lying nearby… She was semi-nude and had injury marks on her body… They have taken samples. They have sent it to CFSL in West Bengal. The CBI has decided to send the samples to AIIMS.”
