Shivpal Yadav, the National General Secretary of the Samajwadi Party, has unveiled a substantial announcement while visiting Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh. Focusing on the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024, he conveyed that he is willing to contest from any constituency designated by the party. He clarified that Akshay Yadav will exclusively contest from the Firozabad seat. Additionally, he disclosed a pivotal detail regarding Akhilesh Yadav’s electoral seat. Shivpal Yadav affirmed that Akhilesh Yadav will vie for the Lok Sabha elections either from the Kannauj or Azamgarh seat.
Anticipation and Rivalry
Notably, recent discussions had speculated that Shivpal Yadav might opt for the Azamgarh seat this time. The present BJP MP, Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua, had even challenged Shivpal Yadav’s potential candidacy. Nirhua asserted his reluctance to compete against a minor political figure and emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Azamgarh. He questioned Shivpal Yadav’s capability to perform when even Akhilesh Yadav, who had enjoyed a three-year stint as a Member of Parliament, had achieved little. Nirhua’s retort also included his achievements within a one-year tenure, contrasting them against Akhilesh Yadav’s record.
Electoral Dynamics: Azamgarh and Kannauj
Shivpal Yadav’s announcement holds strategic significance for the Lok Sabha elections. Should Akhilesh Yadav opt for Azamgarh, the contest could intensify. Akhilesh Yadav had triumphed over Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Nevertheless, Nirhua retaliated by defeating SP’s Dharmendra Yadav in the subsequent by-election after Akhilesh Yadav’s resignation. Alternatively, in the context of Kannauj, BJP currently holds sway. Subrata Pathak, representing BJP, occupies the MP seat for Kannauj. Subrata Pathak had emerged victorious against Dimple Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Dimple Yadav had previously secured a win against Subrata Pathak in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
