New Delhi: Amid talks of an alliance between Aam Aadmi Party and Congress in Haryana, AAP on Monday announced the names of 20 candidates. With this announcement, there are indications that there will be no alliance between the two parties. However, some people still believe that this could also be pressure politics from the side of Aam Aadmi Party. Sources say that Congress is not ready to give as many seats as Aam Aadmi Party wants to contest. AAP was demanding 10 seats, but Congress is ready to give only three to five seats. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi wanted an alliance between the two parties in Haryana. Now the question is why the talks did not work out despite several rounds of talks on the alliance and Rahul Gandhi's desire.
Was it due to this fear that Congress backed off?
Many leaders of Haryana Congress were not speaking openly and aggressively but they told their central leadership what they wanted. They said that the party is capable and strong in Haryana on its own and AAP is not needed. Rahul Gandhi had talked about the alliance, so even though no one was speaking openly, they expressed their opinion in some way or the other. Amidst all this, a faction of the Congress party was raising the question whether what happened in Delhi and Punjab can happen in Haryana as well. Congress has suffered the most due to the arrival of AAP in both Delhi and Punjab. They said that today AAP is not that strong in Haryana but if the Congress party gives space, then what happened in Delhi and Punjab can happen in Haryana as well.

Haryana Congress leaders did not seem to be in favor of this from the beginning
Haryana Congress's biggest leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda is said to be not in favour of an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party from the very beginning. He had already conveyed his opinion to the party high command. Randeep Surjewala also said that the Congress party is capable of winning the elections in Haryana even without AAP. When Congress leader Captain Ajay Singh Yadav was asked such a question about the talks of Congress-AAP alliance for the Haryana elections, he gave a one-line answer. Ajay Singh Yadav said that AAP has no base in Haryana and I think why should we give them a place there. Many other leaders also had similar opinions.
How did the alliance talks progress?
In the Congress Election Committee meeting, Rahul Gandhi had talked about exploring the possibility of an alliance between AAP and Congress in Haryana. From here onwards the discussions intensified. Several rounds of meetings were held between the leaders of both the parties regarding the alliance, but nothing came out of it. Congress's first list was also delayed due to this reason and when it came, it had only 32 names. Negotiations were going on behind the scenes. Behind Rahul Gandhi's talk of the possibility, it seemed that the All India Alliance should fight the elections unitedly in Haryana and there should be no division of votes against the BJP. This benefit was also seen in the results of the Lok Sabha elections and the same effort was to be repeated here as well.
Why is this topic still not being talked about openly?
Haryana AAP unit chief Sushil Gupta said today that if consensus is not reached by evening, his party will release the names of candidates for all 90 seats. A few hours after this statement, Aam Aadmi Party released the first list of 20 candidates. The last date for filing nominations for the 90-member Haryana Assembly is 12 September. That means only three days are left now. Nothing is being said openly by both the parties regarding the release of the first list and the AAP-Congress alliance. Now in such a situation, everything will become clear after the release of two lists of Congress, the next list and the next list of AAP.
