Renowned singer Pankaj Udhas, celebrated for timeless hits such as ‘Chitthi aayi hai,’ passed away today at the age of 72 following an extended period of illness, as confirmed by his family. The Udhas family issued a statement expressing their deep sorrow, stating, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padma Shri Pankaj Udhas on 26 February due to a prolonged illness.”

Having left an indelible mark as a playback singer in Hindi films like “Naam,” “Saajan,” and “Mohra,” Udhas breathed his last around 11 am at Breach Candy Hospital, according to PTI, citing a family source.

His repertoire includes evergreen ghazals such as ‘Chandani Raat Mein,’ ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhaar,’ ‘Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein,’ ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar,’ and ‘Thodi Thodi Piya Karo.’

Pankaj Udhas, known for captivating audiences worldwide with his performances and numerous albums, will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
