A marketing executive and his roommate from Kalyan were apprehended by the MIDC police for orchestrating a scam involving fake property listings on online platforms. Swapnil Jadhav, the marketing executive, and Manavendra Sahni were arrested after a woman filed a complaint stating that she paid ₹90,000 in advance after being promised property viewings for rental houses.

Swapnil Jadhav, who had previously fallen victim to cyber fraud, devised the plan to exploit unsuspecting individuals. The duo would create fraudulent property listings using images from legitimate ones, pose as agents, and collect fees for site inspections or advances. Operating for over a year without encountering legal issues, they were finally arrested by the police.

Among their victims was a 35-year-old woman who contacted them through a website and paid ₹90,000 in advance. When the duo allegedly stopped responding after receiving the money, the woman reported the incident to the police.

Presented before a court on Monday, Jadhav and Sahni were remanded in police custody. Despite efforts by Jadhav to evade detection by changing phone numbers and resetting his devices, a specialized team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Bhosale successfully tracked them down in Kalyan.

The police team confiscated five mobile phones and other devices from the accused during the arrest.
