Jay Shah becomes ICC chairman, full plan is ready, told what he is going to do

New Delhi. Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Newly elected president Jay Shah said on Tuesday that during his tenure he will ensure that Test cricket becomes the 'foundation' of the game. During this time he will also try to 'remove the obstacles hindering the progress of cricket'.

35-year-old Shah, who has been serving as BCCI secretary since 2019, will take over from 62-year-old Greg Barclay on December 1. He will be the youngest ICC president. New Zealand's Barclay decided not to contest for a third consecutive term of two years.

In a statement issued by the BCCI, Shah said, “T20 is naturally an exciting format, but it is equally important that Test cricket remains a priority for everyone. It is the backbone of our game. We must ensure that cricketers are attracted to the longer format and our efforts will be focused on this goal.”

Shah said, “I would like to work towards setting up a separate programme for talent search during my tenure. I look forward to your cooperation in this programme.”
