According to a study published in the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, eating too much sweets is a major cause of diabetes.

The study emphasises that diabetic patients should reduce their intake of sugar-rich sweets to keep their blood sugar levels stable.

Beverages like lassi, sweetened fruit juices and sodas are high in sugar and can quickly increase blood sugar levels. They also provide very little nutrition, so they are not good for diabetics. A report in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research shows that regular consumption of sweetened beverages significantly increases the risk of diabetes in the Indian population. According to health experts, diabetic patients should drink water, unsweetened herbal tea or fresh fruit juice.
