India Weather Update: The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in North-West India and Northeast including UP, Delhi for the next 5 days

New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over northwest and northeast India in the next four to five days. The weather department said a low pressure area currently lies over northwest Bay of Bengal, close to north Odisha-West Bengal coasts.

IMD has said that a cyclonic circulation has formed at the lower tropospheric level over northeast Rajasthan, Bihar, east and northwest of Uttar Pradesh. A low pressure area has formed over the northwest part of Uttar Pradesh.

The IMD said that due to these weather systems, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan from June 29 to July 3. Heavy rainfall is also very likely over Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha on June 29-30 and over Bihar from June 30 to July 2.

The IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh during this period.

In the Northeast, due to a cyclonic circulation over northeastern parts of Assam, light to moderate rain, thundershowers, lightning and heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places over West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next five days.

Very heavy rainfall is likely at some places over Arunachal Pradesh on June 29-30 and over Assam and Meghalaya on June 29. The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall at some places over Saurashtra, Kutch, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and coastal and south Karnataka from June 29 to July 1.

The IMD also said that the southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of east Uttar Pradesh and some parts of west Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. The IMD said that conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into remaining parts of west Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, most parts of Punjab and remaining parts of west Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu during the next two to three days.
