The journey from pregnancy to becoming a mother is full of difficulties. There are many stages in this journey when the mother and the child may have to face problems. In such a situation, it becomes necessary to consult a doctor. Today, with the help of Dr. Neelam Suri (Gynecologist, Indraprastha Bolo Hospital), we will know which blood tests should not be avoided during pregnancy.

According to Dr. Suri, when a woman goes to the hospital after finding out about her pregnancy, the doctor gives her a detailed 'checklist' for examination. The most important in this list is a blood test. It is very important for a pregnant woman to know her blood group. Many women have not visited a doctor before pregnancy, so they do not know what their blood group is. A blood test is done to know the woman's blood group.

Dr. Suri says, 'If the pregnant woman's Rh is positive then it is fine. But if the blood group is Rh negative then the woman's husband's blood group also has to be tested. Rh negative pregnancy is not considered good. In such a situation, if it is detected in the beginning, then there is no problem in the future. During pregnancy, a problem like anemia can also occur due to lack of red blood cells i.e. hemoglobin. Therefore, it becomes necessary to get the blood tested.

Dr. Suri also advises all pregnant women to get tested for thalassemia. In fact, thalassemia minor has also become very common in our country. Thalassemia is an autosomal recessive blood disorder, that is, a genetic blood disorder, which cannot be ignored. The child growing in the womb can be affected by it and suffer from thalassemia.

Apart from thalassemia and blood test, urine test and sugar test are also necessary during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, sugar is tested after giving 75 grams of glucose so that it can be known whether the woman's body is able to bear the load of sugar or not. According to the doctor, if there is a problem of sugar, it affects the development of the child.

Thyroid tests are also done during pregnancy. Dr. Suri says, 'If there is already a thyroid problem, then the dosage of thyroid tablets is increased for women. This is because thyroid hormone plays a very important role in the development of the child. Sometimes unknowingly the level of thyroid increases so much that the woman gets confused in the beginning, so it is very important to get this test done.
