Foods with high sugar, fat and salt should be avoided. This can have a bad effect on health. Ultra-processed food (UPF) usually contains high sugar and salt. The guidelines state that such foods, including jam, fruit pulp, carbonated beverages, health drinks, should be used in limited quantities. Foods with high fat, high sugar and salt should not be consumed even at home.

Expert committee issued guidelines

ICMR's guidelines state that regular consumption of ultra-processed food can lead to serious diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease. Many people like to eat calorie-rich ultra-processed food, such foods have low fiber content and high sugar content. Deep fried products should also be avoided. The National Institute of Nutrition and ICMR have also suggested setting limits on the amount of sugar in packaged food and beverages.

If a food item is naturally sweet and sugar has been added to that product separately, then it is called added sugar. The guidelines state that people should eat fresh food as much as possible. The amount of processed food should be reduced. The use of millets, pulses, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables in your food will have to be increased.

This also increases blood sugar. This increases obesity. Dr. Bansal says that processed food should be eaten in limited quantities. Processed food includes products like maida and bread, while ultra-processed food includes burgers and deep fried food items. If ultra-processed products are consumed in large quantities, then diseases like sugar, blood pressure are invited, which later turn into heart diseases. Suppose if one is going to have diabetes after a certain age, then eating such food will cause it much before time. In such a situation, moderation in eating is very important.
