Kolkata. The Indian cricket team will get a new head coach in the next few days. Rahul Dravid's tenure as coach will end after the T20 World Cup 2024. Gambhir is the frontrunner to become Team India's head coach. KKR recently won the IPL title under the mentorship of former left-handed batsman Gambhir. When asked on Friday about becoming the next head coach of Team India, Gambhir said that he does not think so far ahead.

Gautam Gambhir had arrived here for the program of 'Indian Chambers of Commerce'. Gambhir gave a virtual interview to the Cricket Advisory Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier this week. He is considered a strong contender as India's next head coach. The tenure of the current head coach Rahul Dravid will end after the T20 World Cup.

Gambhir said- I am enjoying it right now
Gambhir (42), who recently helped Kolkata Knight Riders win their third Indian Premier League title as the team mentor, remained tight-lipped when asked about the possibility of becoming the head coach. “I don't look that far ahead. You are asking me all the tough questions,” he said. “It's difficult to answer right now. All I can say is that I am happy right now, a great journey has just ended and I am enjoying it. I am very happy right now,” Gambhir said at the 'Rise to Leadership' seminar here.

Gambhir may go with Team India as coach on Sri Lanka tour
Gambhir is currently the strongest contender to become the head coach of the senior men's team, having surpassed former women's team head coach WV Raman. The announcement will be a mere formality and could be announced in the next few days. Gambhir will also get a chance to choose his support staff, including batting, bowling and fielding coaches. It is understood that Gambhir may start his tenure from mid-July. The Indian team will tour Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series in which it has to play three T20 Internationals and as many ODIs.
