Gwalior Airport: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has announced the date when passenger traffic will start from the new terminal of Gwalior's Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport. According to a senior official of Airport Authority of India (AAI), the work of Operational Readiness and Airport Transition (ORAT) certification of the new terminal of Gwalior Airport has been completed. During the certification, first of all, all the systems and services from the entry gate of the terminal to the aerobridge have been successfully tested, the benefits of which will be available to the passengers traveling from Gwalior Airport in the future.

Additionally, trial runs of aircraft operations with state-of-the-art equipment installed in the Airport Operational Control Center (AOCC) and the new Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower have been successfully completed. In the final phase, CISF has completely taken over the security arrangements of the new terminal after carrying out security sanitization. After completion of all these processes, the new terminal is now ready for flight operation.

When will flight operations start from the new terminal?
According to a senior AAI official, aircraft operations will start from the new terminal of Gwalior Airport from April 2, 2024. On April 2, all operations from Gwalior Airport will be shifted from the old terminal to the new terminal. After which, the allowance of Gwalior Airport will increase by about seven times. It is noteworthy that Gwalior Airport, spread over an area of ​​about 20 thousand square meters, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 496 crore.

According to AAI, the new terminal of Gwalior Airport, built in a record time of 16 months, will handle the movement of about 20 lakh passengers annually. Also, during peak hours, 1400 passengers will be able to travel through the terminal simultaneously. Parking arrangements for about 600 cars have been made in the newly constructed terminal building along with 16 check-in counters. Apart from this, 13 parking-ways have been constructed for aircraft parking in the airport along with the apron.
