New Delhi : Due to the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh due to the protests, most of the Indian and foreign students who have come to India so far do not want to return to their country. Many foreign students told BSF officers posted at the India-Bangladesh border that they do not have enough money to go back to their country. They will stay here and wait for the situation in Bangladesh to become completely normal. After this, they will return to Bangladesh again.
How many students returned from where?
BSF South Bengal Frontier DIG AK Arya said that till July 23, 4,315 students have come to India from Bangladesh. These include 3,087 Indians, 41 from Bangladesh, 1118 from Nepal, 66 from Bhutan, 2 from Maldives and 1 student from Canada. Most of these students are coming to India from West Bengal bordering Bangladesh. Some students have also come to India from the border adjoining Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. The India-Bangladesh border adjoining these states is about 4100 kilometers long. 23 percent of it is river and 77 percent is land. It is the 5th longest land border in the world.
Foreign students don’t want to go back to their country
The officer said that BSF is providing food, water, health checkup and other facilities to all the students who have fled from Bangladesh and have come to India. All the officers are on high alert. Special help desks have been set up on the border. Most of the students, especially foreign students, have told BSF and other Indian officers that they do not want to go to their country right now. Because, going there will cost them a lot, which they are not in a position to bear right now. Some students shared their ordeal with the officers and told that in a hurry they forgot money and other important things in the hostel in Bangladesh. The Indian government is also helping such students.
Arrangements are being made for the stay of foreign students
Officials say that all the students are telling them that they do not want to return to their country. No pressure is being put on them to go to their country. Arrangements for their stay are also being made. On the other hand, in view of the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh, BSF Special DG Eastern Command Kolkata Ravi Gandhi has also launched Operation Alert on the India-Bangladesh border. So that no one can infiltrate the border by taking advantage of the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh. However, it is being said that the situation in Bangladesh is slowly becoming normal.
