Enough is enough, I am scared… President Draupadi Murmu's big statement on Kolkata doctor murder case

New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu has expressed grief and anger over the rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata. Speaking to PTI, she said she was “shocked and horrified” by the incident. Expressing concern over the rising crimes against women, the President said “enough is enough”, adding that a civilised society cannot tolerate such brutality against its daughters and sisters.

President Murmu also mentioned the Nirbhaya incident

President Murmu said that society needs 'honest and unbiased introspection'. We should ask ourselves some tough questions. She said that often 'poor mindset' considers women as lesser, less powerful, less capable and less intelligent. Referring to the Nirbhaya case, she said that in the last 12 years, countless rapes have happened which the society has forgotten. The President called it 'collective amnesia' and said that it is highly condemnable.

Cruelty against daughters and sisters will not be tolerated

President Murmu said that societies that are afraid to confront their history collectively forget. Now the time has come for India to face its history honestly. She said that on one hand students, doctors and citizens were protesting in Kolkata, while on the other hand criminals were roaming around fearlessly. This incident shocks and frightens us. No civilized society can tolerate such barbarity against its daughters and sisters.
