These students have been exempted from DU's promotion policy
Students representing Delhi University in sports, NCC, NSS or other activities may be exempted from this rule. DU says that this step has been taken to properly implement the UG Curriculum Framework (UGCF) implemented under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2022.
An official said that students had to pass seven papers and get a total of 22 credits to get promoted. But under NEP-UGCF 2022, the credits of all subjects are not equal. Due to this, a student can get promoted to the next year even after scoring only 36% marks. Understand how this is possible?
Suppose a student passes only three papers of both semesters and passes a general optional subject, then also he can be promoted. This is because the credit system has been given more importance in the new rules.
Approval of the recommendation of the 12-member committee
To overcome this shortcoming, DU formed a 12-member committee. This committee included principals of many colleges of Delhi University including Miranda House, Kirori Mal College and Lady Shri Ram College. Apart from this, the committee also included deans, academicians and Controller of Examinations (COE). The committee met on May 7 and gave its recommendations. These recommendations were approved by DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh on May 28.
The committee said that this mess in implementing the NEP-UGCF 2022 is 'detrimental to the academic development of students and is failing to achieve the goals set in NEP 2020.' Hence the committee unanimously recommended that the passing and promotion rules should be reviewed.
