What is America's problem?
The US State Department on Wednesday expressed its displeasure over Prime Minister Modi's recent visit to Russia. The department took note of the fact that Modi was seen hugging Russian President Vladimir Putin on the same day as a missile attack on a children's hospital in Ukraine. “The US government shares the disappointment over the timing of India's Prime Minister Modi's visit to Moscow. We are engaging with our Indian friends,” US Secretary of State Donald Lu told the US Congress on Wednesday.
What is the whole matter?
Prime Minister Modi visited Russia for two days earlier this month, where he held several meetings with Putin. The diplomatic hug between the two leaders became a topic of discussion. In fact, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the visit and the gesture, calling it a setback to peace efforts, which happened on the same day when Russia launched a deadly missile attack. During this visit, the US State Department said that Washington has already expressed its concern about India's relations with Russia. Spokesperson Matthew Miller had said, 'We welcome people talking with Russia about the war in Ukraine, if they make it clear to Russia that Russia needs to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.' India has refrained from condemning Russia for the war against Ukraine and did not participate in the UN vote on the issue, but has advocated diplomacy to resolve the conflict.
