What are the rules?
According to the rules, when any officer or soldier joins the army, he has to fill a detailed form called After Me Folder. It contains complete information about the NOK. If the soldier is not married, then either his mother or father can be his NOK. After marriage, his wife becomes his NOK.
What does NOK get?
If a soldier dies or becomes a martyr, then different types of financial help are available in that situation. Generally, there are three types of family pension. The first is Ordinary Family Pension. It is given to NOK in the situation when the soldier dies due to any disease or under normal circumstances. It is 30 percent of the last salary. The second pension is Special Family Pension. It is given to NOK in the situation when the soldier dies during duty or because of duty. It is 60 percent of the salary. The third pension is Liberalized Family Pension. It is given to NOK in the case of battle casualty. It is 100 percent of the salary. According to the rules, only NOK is entitled to get pension. Apart from this, if a soldier gets any gallantry award for bravery, then that also goes to NOK and the amount received with it also goes to NOK.
What do parents get
If the soldier is married then the nominee will be his wife. What do the parents get in such a situation? The soldier can make anyone he wants as a nominee for the insurance amount, PF amount, ex-gratia amount and gratuity. He has to write his will, the full details of which are with the army. The person whom the soldier has made a nominee and whatever percentage he has made, he will get it. Be it parents, wife or children. Also, dependent parents keep getting medical facilities.
If the wife marries a second time
If the NOK is a wife and she marries a second time, then there are different rules for that too. If the wife is getting ordinary family pension, then it will stop as soon as she marries a second time, whether she has children or not. But if the wife is getting special family pension, then it will continue. If the wife leaves the children, then out of the 60 percent salary she was getting as pension, 30 percent will go to the wife and 30 percent to the children. Similarly, if the wife is getting liberalized family pension and it will continue even after she marries a second time. If she leaves the children, then out of the 100 percent salary she was getting as pension, 30 percent will go to the wife and 70 percent to the children.
