The national capital Delhi received heavy rains on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory and appealed to the people of Delhi to avoid going out unless it is necessary. The advisory says, 'Avoid going to areas where there is often a problem of waterlogging.' Along with this, let us tell you that on Wednesday there was news of cloudburst in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, due to which about 30 meters of the footpath was damaged.

The water level of the Mandakini river has also risen rapidly due to the sudden heavy rains. A high alert has been issued for the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police and local authorities after reports of cloudburst. An orange alert has been issued in the national capital today. Other states with orange alerts for heavy rains include Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Goa.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red alert' in Delhi till 8:30 am today and an orange alert for the next 24 hours thereafter. “Moderate rain with moderate thunderstorms and lightning is likely over North Delhi, Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, NCR,” the IMD said.

IMD predicts that the capital Delhi will continue to receive intermittent rains till August 5. Along with this, a storm is also expected. Apart from Delhi, there has been thunderstorm and light rain in other areas of NCR as well. Due to rain in Delhi, there has been large-scale waterlogging and this has also disrupted transportation. Let us tell you, Delhi Traffic Police has also issued an advisory.

Amid heavy rains and cloudburst in Uttarakhand, several roads in Rudraprayag were washed away due to river erosion and hillslides on Thursday, July 31, causing immense trouble to travellers and commuters.

Rudraprayag police in Uttarakhand said in a post on social media platform X that they have issued a warning to all residents and travellers, asking them to restrict their movement near Sonprayag main market. A large portion of the road has been washed away due to river erosion and landslides. Pedestrian movement is not possible at the moment.

Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami has asked the NDRF and SDRF teams to remain on high alert in areas affected by heavy rains. In a post on Twitter, the CM said that rescue operations were carried out overnight and people were evacuated to safer places after heavy rains hit the state.

“Relief and rescue operations are underway in Rambada, Bhimbali, Jakhaniyali and other worst-affected areas,” he said. According to the State Disaster and Mitigation Control Centre, at least 10 people have died in landslides and rain-related accidents since Wednesday evening. Many have been swept away by the river.

The IMD has predicted more rain in Kerala till August 4, as heavy rains wreaked havoc in Wayanad district on Tuesday morning, claiming over 285 lives. The weather agency has issued a yellow alert in most districts, including Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The weather department has also predicted “extremely heavy rainfall” in Maharashtra till August 3, Madhya Pradesh till August 2, Goa till August 2-3 and Gujarat till August 3.

Orange and yellow alerts have been issued in Haryana.
