Dabur to invest Rs 400 crore to set up manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu


Leading consumer goods company Dabur is set to invest Rs 400 crore in Tamil Nadu, which will be its first manufacturing venture in South India.

The company on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at the SIPCOT Food Park located at Tindivanam in Villupuram district.

The announcement was made by Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Raja on Thursday through a post on the social media platform 'X'.

Expressing excitement over the new partnership, the Minister said, “Welcome to Tamil Nadu, @DaburIndia! Indeed, welcome to South India! In the presence of Hon'ble @CMOTamilNadu Thiru @MKStalin avargal, @Guidance_TN today signed an MoU with Dabur to set up its first world-class manufacturing plant in South India at SIPCOT Food Park in #Tindivanam, Villupuram district.”

The investment planned by Dabur is valued at Rs 400 crore, with an initial stage investment of Rs 135 crore. This capital will be gradually increased to Rs 400 crore over the next five years, the company said in an official statement. The project is expected to generate direct employment for around 250 persons, while also creating thousands of indirect employment opportunities in the region.

The Minister said that setting up of this facility is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, especially the farmers of the nearby delta region.

Minister TRB Raja highlighted that this development will open up new avenues for farmers to sell their agri-produce, which will be processed at the new plant. “Dabur will invest Rs 400 crore in this facility, which will create over 250 jobs. More importantly, it will open up new opportunities for farmers in the nearby delta region to sell their agri-produce, which will be processed at this facility,” he said.

“Our Chief Minister, who is himself a Deltakaran and I am an MLA from Delta, am very happy to bring the right kind of food processing industrial tie-up to the Delta region. Dabur is renowned for its home care, personal care and juice products, and its decision to choose Tamil Nadu is a testimony to the thriving industrial ecosystem and availability of ready labour force in our state,” the minister said in his post on X.

“We are grateful to the Government of Tamil Nadu, especially the Department of Industries led by Hon'ble Minister Dr. TRB Raja for their personal and active support and guidance, and also to the guidance teams in Tamil Nadu and SIPCOT for their whole-hearted support in facilitating this project. This investment will enable us to better meet the growing demand for our products in South India and strengthen our market presence in the region,” said Mohit Malhotra, Chief Executive Officer, Dabur India.

The company also said that this new facility, which will be one of Dabur's most modern and eco-friendly plants, will have the capability to manufacture a wide range of the company's products, especially meeting the growing demand in the southern market.
