On 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, displaying a dictatorial mindset, strangled the soul of our democracy by imposing emergency on the country. Lakhs of people were jailed without any fault and the voice of the media was suppressed. The Government of India has decided to observe 25 June every year as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. This day will remember the great contribution of all those who endured the inhuman pain of the Emergency of 1975.

Congress enraged by the government's decision
On one hand, NDA leaders are welcoming this decision of the government, while opposition leaders are criticizing it. After June 25 was declared 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas', reactions of Congress leaders Vivek Tankha, Pawan Khera and Pramod Tiwari have come to the fore. Congress leader Vivek Tankha said that I was very surprised when a notification was issued by the Government of India that Emergency Memorial Day will be celebrated across the country every year on June 25. He said that raising the incident of 1975 shows the frustration of the BJP. Due to frustration, they are raising a 50-year-old issue. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said that on the 4th of last month, the BJP got such a current of 440 volts that those who dreamed of 400 were reduced to 240. Their dream of changing the Constitution was shattered. But now the Constitution started coming in their dreams, when the Parliament echoed with the slogans of the Constitution, now there is talk of Constitution Hatya Diwas.
In 10 years, the government celebrated 'Constitution Murder Day' every day: Kharge
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge told the Prime Minister that in 10 years, your government has celebrated 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' every day. You have snatched the self-respect of every poor and deprived section of the country every moment. The Congress President said, 'When a BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh urinates on tribals or when the police forcibly cremates the Dalit daughter of Hathras in UP, then what else is it if not the murder of the Constitution? When every 15 minutes a major crime is committed against Dalits and six Dalit women are raped every day, then what else is it if not the murder of the Constitution?'
It will remind us of the sacrifices against 'dictatorial mindset': BJP
The BJP said that observing June 25 every year as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' will remind people of the sacrifice and martyrdom of those who fought against the 'dictatorial mindset' of the Congress. The party paid tribute to those who suffered torture and sacrificed their lives fighting against the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government nearly 50 years ago. BJP chief and Union minister JP Nadda said in a post on 'X' that June 25, 1975 was a dark day when the 'dictatorial mindset' of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency on the country by 'murdering' the democracy enshrined in the Constitution. BJP Rajya Sabha member Rakesh Sinha in a post on 'X' called the government's decision 'historic' and said that it would give people an opportunity to understand the incident and the force behind abrogating the Constitution.
