In a joint press conference held in New Delhi on February 24, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) officially revealed their seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in various states. The alliance covers Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Goa, and Chandigarh, while both parties have decided to contest independently in Punjab.

  1. Delhi: AAP will contest on four seats – New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and East Delhi. Congress will fight on three seats – Chandni Chowk, North East, and North West.
  2. Gujarat: Congress will contest 24 out of 26 Lok Sabha seats, and AAP will contest two, including Bharuch and Bhavnagar.
  3. Haryana: Congress will fight on nine out of 10 seats, while AAP will contest in Kurukshetra.
  4. Chandigarh: Congress candidate will contest the seat.
  5. Goa: Both seats will be contested by the Congress.

However, the two parties have decided to contest separately in Punjab, where AAP currently holds power.

AAP MP Sandeep Pathak, along with Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, former Congress general secretary Deepak Babaria, and AAP MLAs Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, were present at the press conference.

Pathak emphasized that the alliance is formed in the interest of the nation, prioritizing the country over individual political interests. He stated that the BJP’s actions in the country, including the use of institutions for political pressure, stealing elections, and imprisoning opposition leaders, necessitate a strong and honest alternative.

The seat-sharing announcement comes after weeks of speculation and allegations from AAP about potential arrests of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if an alliance with the Congress proceeds. Congress’s National Alliance Committee convenor Mukul Wasnik condemned the pressure tactics used by the BJP and emphasized the need for unity against such practices.
