Bhupendra Sharma, New Delhi: The Union Education Ministry has started brainstorming on the roadmap for the next five years to achieve the goals set under the National Education Policy 2020. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in a review meeting held on Tuesday that both the states and the Center should work as a team to strengthen the education ecosystem and promote best practices in each other's states. He spoke on the roadmap for the next five years for the overall development of school education across the country. He said that education is a key pillar of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India and the states should work together to achieve this goal. In about four years of the National Education Policy, the education ecosystem in the country has made rapid progress. Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary was also present on the occasion.

Education Minister held a review meeting with the states

The Education Minister said that India is a young country. Our challenge is to prepare global citizens for the 21st century, which is changing rapidly as this century is being driven by technology. He further said that it is our collective responsibility to ensure an education system that is both grounded and modern. There has to be a focus on technology in schools. We should also enhance our skill capabilities to increase employability. Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary said that NEP 2020 is the most ambitious and progressive policy document. He said that the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) has to be taken to 100 percent.

Discussion on five year action plan

Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of Education and Literacy, said that the main objective of the review meeting is to review NEP 2020 and its implementation in the states as well as to see the progress of the major schemes of the ministry. Schemes like Samagra Shiksha, PM Shri, PM Poshan, Ullas will have to be adjusted with the policy. During the meeting, five-year action plan for all the states, 100-day action plan, infrastructure under Samagra Shiksha will be discussed. Smart class is the need of the hour. We have to work together towards making the school campus tobacco free.

Review of guidelines prepared for bagless day in schools

The Union Education Ministry has reviewed the guidelines prepared for Bagless Days in schools. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, held a meeting with representatives of CBSE, NCERT, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan on the guidelines prepared by the NCERT unit. It was decided in the meeting that these guidelines will be finalized soon after review.

The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) issued for school education makes it clear that classroom teaching is not just the world of books, but students should also be introduced to experts from various fields. There will be 10 bagless days in the annual calendar of schools, that is, in these ten days students will go to school without bags and books. In these days, students will be taken on field visits. It has been recommended that in these ten days, students should be made aware of the local ecology, taught to check the purity of water, identify local flora and fauna and visit local monuments.

Emphasis on achieving the goals set for education

The education policy states that all students from class 6-8 will be required to attend school without bags for ten days. During this time, students will do internships with local skill experts and participate in activities outside the traditional school system. The Bagless Days will include various activities such as art, quizzes, sports and skill-based learning. Students will also be periodically exposed to activities outside the classroom, including visits to historical, cultural and tourist places, interactions with local artists and craftsmen, and visits to various educational institutions within their village, tehsil, district or state according to local skill requirements.
