Big news for MBBS students! Now the family will have to adopt and take care from the first year itself.


The National Medical Commission (NMC) has implemented the Family Adoption Program for all MBBS students till 2023-24. Every student will have to adopt some family during his studies and take care of their health. Health camps were organized in various districts and towns of 28 states of the country between 11 June to 7 August 2024, in which 85% MBBS students from 496 medical colleges of the country participated. On the basis of investigation, NMC has released the first survey report. Has been released on 2024. In which it has come to light that a large number of people were not aware about diseases like BP, sugar, anemia etc.

Benefits to both students and patients

This survey report was prepared under the supervision of Dr. Aruna V. Vanikar, Chairperson, Undergraduate Medical Education Board, NMC. He says that along with classroom teaching, students have been given the opportunity to conduct health check-ups of people right from the first year of their studies. Students can be explained in a better way through health camps.

He says that every student taking admission in MBBS will have to start taking care of the family from the very first year of studies. It will also be seen how many families have received help under the Community Outreach Programme. Apart from this the college has organized medical camps and health check-up camps in rural areas.

How is the health of the country?

The investigation report revealed that out of 40,829 children, 31 percent were found to be suffering from anemia. Apart from this, this problem is found in 38% women. Anemia was found in 39% of pregnant women and 19% of men. In anemia there is a decrease in the number of red blood cells or the level of hemoglobin. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin. It is this protein that enables them to take oxygen from the lungs and deliver it to all parts of the body.

The health of 12,09,338 people from 2,73,656 families was examined. More than 1300 health camps were organized. BP problem was found in 17% and sugar problem in 14%. A total of 2.58 lakh people were benefited during the camp and 1.99 lakh people got home health care facilities. 4,61,831 were screened for BP, out of which 17% were found to have BP. Blood sugar of 3,66,096 people was checked, out of which complaints were found in 14%.
