New Delhi: The Election Commission has put a stay on the meeting of the selection committee for the appointment of the Chairman, Member (Judicial) and Member (Non-Judicial) of the Haryana State Human Rights Commission for the time being. The Commission has given this instruction to the CEO of Haryana State. In this matter, a complaint was made to the Commission on behalf of the Haryana Pradesh Congress that in view of the assembly elections in Haryana, these appointments have been made in a hurry amidst the Model Code of Conduct in force from August 16.
The meeting will remain adjourned until the elections are over.
In this case, the Commission, while taking action on the complaint received, has directed the CEO of Haryana sitting in Chandigarh that for the time being this meeting will remain postponed till the completion of the assembly elections 2024 in Haryana. It was told in the complaint that these appointments are made on the recommendation of a committee. This committee consists of the Chief Minister, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the Minister in charge of the Home Department in the state and the Leader of the Opposition in the state. These appointments are made on their recommendation. It was said in the complaint that the Haryana government is hastily moving forward the process of making these appointments. Whereas they had enough time earlier as well.

The matter is ongoing in court
This matter is also going on in the court. In which the court had directed the Haryana government on 5 April 2024 to fill all these posts within three weeks of the lifting of the Model Code of Conduct due to the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. But it is alleged that the state government could not follow these instructions within the stipulated time. Now the Model Code of Conduct is in force in Haryana due to the assembly elections. The Election Commission says that the state government had enough time to make these appointments after the lifting of the Model Code of Conduct after the completion of the Lok Sabha elections. But it could not do so. Even now the state government has enough time to comply with the instructions of the High Court after the completion of the 2024 general elections of the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Therefore, it is directed that the meeting of the selection committee be postponed till the completion of the 2024 general elections of the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
