Ravindra Jadeja made a big achievement in cricket. He now has the most wickets for India in the Asia Cup in the One Day International (ODI) matches. He did this by taking more wickets than Irfan Pathan.
Jadeja reached this milestone during a match against Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage at the R Premadasa Stadium. In that game, he got two wickets and gave away 33 runs.
So far, Jadeja has taken 24 wickets in 18 innings, which is more than Irfan Pathan’s 22 wickets in 12 innings. Another Indian bowler, Kuldeep Yadav, is also doing well with 19 wickets in nine innings.
Overall, when we look at all the Asia Cup tournaments, Jadeja is the fifth-best bowler in terms of taking wickets. The first position goes to Muttiah Muralitharan, who has taken 30 wickets in 24 innings.
India’s bowling team did a great job in this match. They ended Sri Lanka’s 13-match winning streak in ODI matches and secured their place in the Asia Cup 2023 final with one game to spare. Sri Lanka only managed to score 172 runs while chasing a small target.
In the same game, some young and talented Sri Lankan bowlers, Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka, did really well. They took down some of India’s top batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya. Wellalage even achieved a special milestone by taking five wickets in a single game, which was a big deal.
