Ponting and Langer claimed Jay Shah denied

New Delhi. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah says that the Indian board has not approached any former Australian cricketer to become the coach. Team India head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure is ending after the T20 World Cup. BCCI is looking for a new coach for Team India. Rahul Dravid does not want an extension in his tenure. Recently, former Australian captains Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer had said that they were approached for the post, but they turned down the BCCI's offer.

Jay Shah said on Friday, “Neither I nor anyone from the BCCI has approached any former Australian cricketer for the post of coach. The reports in the media to this effect are completely false.” Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer are the coaches of Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants respectively in the Indian Premier League.

Gautam Gambhir is among the main contenders
Giving a hint about choosing the Indian coach after Rahul Dravid, Jai Shah said, 'Finding the right coach for the national team is a long process. We are looking for a person who has a deep understanding of the structure of Indian cricket and who has reached the top with his skills.' The BCCI secretary also said that an understanding of India's domestic cricket structure is necessary to appoint the next coach. Kolkata Knight Riders mentor and former batsman Gautam Gambhir is also considered to be one of the main contenders for this post.

Rahul Dravid gets an annual salary of Rs 10 crore
BCCI has issued applications for the coach. The last date for applying is 27 May. Dravid's tenure was till the last ODI World Cup, but later he extended it, but this time Dravid is not in the mood for it. BCCI pays Dravid an annual salary of Rs 10 crore. Dravid is the richest cricket coach in the world.
