Filmmaker Mehul Kumar recalled the incident when the famous South producer called him to talk about this. Talking to Bollywood Thikana, he said, 'Once a big producer from South called me and said that we want to remake 'Mughal-e-Azam'. Mehul Kumar did not reveal the name of the producer, but said that he wanted to cast Amitabh Bachchan as Emperor Akbar, Jaya Bachchan as Jodha, Abhishek Bachchan as Salim and Aishwarya as Anarkali.

'Mughal-e-Azam cannot be remade'

When Mehul asked the producer if he had spoken to the Bachchan family, he told that the actor had asked him to speak to him (Mehul) first. He says, 'I told him that Mughal-e-Azam cannot be remade. You are making a plan, but it will not succeed because people will compare it with the original film as it is a historical film. Then he called Amit ji and said that Mehul Kumar has said this. Amit ji said that Mehul has said the right thing.'
