Ananya Pandey, who was recently seen in 'Gahriyaan' and 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan', believes that her parents' advice will always be important for her in her acting journey. Ananya, who wants to do horror-comedy and biopic in the future, is currently in the news for her new OTT series 'Call Me Bae'. Conversation with her.
You have made your place somewhere in the industry, so how much does your parents' advice matter to you in your career now?
-No matter what stage I reach in my career, my parents' advice and guidance will always be important to me. Just yesterday I gave my mother some of my scripts to read. I wanted to know her opinion about the roles that were offered to me. I don't think I have discovered myself, it is a long journey for me and in this journey I will always need my parents' advice, because whatever I am today is because of my parents' blessings and advice. You did comedy in 'Pati Patni Aur Woh', but your character in 'Gahraiyan' was quite serious, what else would you like to do on screen?
-A lot. I haven't done any horror-comedy yet. I would also like to do a biopic. I would like to play a real-life character. I would like to do a romantic film. The range of roles is open for me. But one thing is for sure that I would like to do roles that make women strong.

How do you view the discrimination and constant criticism against girls in society?
-Gender inequality is everywhere. You see it professionally and in society. Sometimes it hurts to see these things, but being a young girl I try to empower women through my films and shows. It is very bad, but unfortunately it is true that for centuries girls have been judged. Sometimes for their clothes, sometimes for their body. They are constantly weighed. They have to listen to taunts and harsh comments. In a way, they have to go through harsh judgment.
On one hand we talk about women empowerment but on the other hand incidents like Kolkata rape case and Badlapur molestation case happen, what would you like to say?
-All these incidents are horrifying and heartbreaking. We have talked a lot about this and especially the industry has also raised its voice. But I think, now the time has come for action. I think, those who have power in their hands will have to bring about a change in this. Unless the laws are strict, there will be no change.
In the Hema Commission report too, many South actresses had made shocking revelations about harassment and inequality. How has Bollywood been for you as an actress?
-Touchwood, Bollywood journey was good for me. Today the industry is changing. When you work in the Hindi industry, especially on OTT, there are many rules, like helpline number on which you can register a complaint. There are many clauses in your contract, which give you protection. But big change will come only when those things are implemented, taken into action. I have not faced anything like this personally, but I understand that being a girl, I am not talking about the industry, generally girls also have to face something like this.
Apart from films, how was the experience of working in a series?
-I had to work really hard. It required long hours and long days for eight episodes. People think that I and my character 'B' are similar, but there are many differences between us. Like, because of the background she comes from, she doesn't get the opportunities that her brother gets because she is a girl. But I was brought up in a family where I was never stopped from doing anything because I was a girl. My family has been very liberal in that regard. She belongs to a very rich family in Delhi, but when she has to come to Mumbai, she has to face different circumstances. I never felt that in my personal life. When you are a part of a series, you enjoy the detailing of the role. People consider this character to be very playful, but it also has a lot of depth. I also enjoyed showing its many shades.
'B' literally means Dear, what's your 'B'?
-Right now my work is my 'bae'. Many exciting things are happening with my work. Next month my film 'Control' with Vikram Motwani sir will also be released. Another film of mine is also going to be released in theatres. I am enjoying my work. My cute dog Ryan is also my 'bae'.

In the series you are seen struggling for an auto. Do you use public transport?
-Absolutely. I still travel by auto. Whenever my parents and sister need a car, I travel by auto. When we were in school, we used to go on school trips by train. I remember we went to Hyderabad, Jamnagar and Ahmedabad by train. People think I don't travel by public transport, but I travel anywhere very comfortably by auto.
You also supported Urfi Javed's show recently? There are many misconceptions about her too. -My parents have always taught me that if you like someone's work, you should praise it. You should support people. When I was growing up, I saw my parents interacting with people in the industry. I too have always received support, encouragement and appreciation from the industry, so I also try to return that. There is also a perception that people in the industry do not support each other. Even if you talk about my trailer, Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Suhana Khan, Shanaya Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor all posted my story, re-posted my post. I found Urfi very bold and bindaas. She is a complete rock star and does not care about anyone's judgment. She is very cool. I am a huge fan of her.
