After the Moon, India will now conquer Venus, ISRO is preparing for Venus mission, know what is the plan


New Delhi: Indian space agency ISRO has set its new destination in space. ISRO has announced 'Venus Orbiter Mission' (VOM), an ambitious mission to the planet Venus. This mission will launch on March 28, 2028 and will run for five years. The goal of this mission is to study Venus's atmosphere, surface and the processes taking place on it with the Sun.

Venus mission will have 19 payloads

This mission of ISRO will cost Rs 1,236 crore. VOM will have 19 payloads, including two scientific instruments developed through Indian and international collaboration and one international payload. This payload has been included only after expert review.

Mission will prepare map of Venus

ISRO said the key scientific objectives of the mission include investigation of dust in the atmosphere of Venus, mapping of its surface in high resolution, study of solar X-ray spectrum near Venus, air analysis of the planet and many other investigations. Also on the lines of Chandrayaan-3, this mission will help in technology demonstration for ISRO, testing aerobraking and thermal management technologies in the harsh Venusian environment.

How different from the earlier missions?

ISRO said, 'So far all missions to Venus by other countries had limited coverage in the southern polar region or the equatorial belt. ISRO further said, 'Therefore, global mapping of many phenomena including winds, waves and chemical abundances is difficult. These missions will provide uniform coverage of the planet Venus, thus creating a database for future missions. According to ISRO, the spacecraft is expected to reach Earth's twin planet in more than 112 days and may return to Earth by July 19, 2028.

The surface and atmosphere of Venus will be studied

ISRO revealed that its Reliable Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM-3) rocket will be used to place the spacecraft around Venus. Under the mission, Venus will be studied from orbit. Scientists believe that these experiments will provide an excellent opportunity to examine the surface and atmosphere of Venus for the first time.

ISRO will collaborate with countries like Russia, France, Sweden and Germany for the development of scientific instruments. The mission was approved in September along with three other ambitious initiatives of the government aimed at establishing the country as a space superpower.
