New Delhi: Many states of the country including Delhi-NCR are going to get relief from scorching heat. Due to western disturbance, there will be drizzle in North India including Delhi, while monsoon has also started advancing from South India. Monsoon remained stuck at one place for about nine days, but now it has advanced in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, North-Western Bay of Bengal, Sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal and some parts of Bihar. According to the Meteorological Department, now the northern boundary of monsoon is passing through Amravati, Gondia, Durg, Raipur (Kalahandi), Malda, Bhagalpur and Raxaul.

Monsoon will advance in the next three-four days

Monsoon is expected to advance further in the coming 3-4 days. This part will reach the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, North-West Bay of Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, remaining areas of the sub-Himalayan region, some areas of Jharkhand, more areas of Bihar and some areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in the next five days. At the same time, heavy rains may occur in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 22 and 23 June.

Rain alert from West Bengal to Bihar

Light to moderate rains accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely over Gangetic plains West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next five days. Heavy rains are also likely at isolated places over Bihar during June 20-24, over Jharkhand on June 20 and 21 and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on June 23 and 24. Very heavy rains are very likely over Bihar today.

Monsoon gains momentum in western India

Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada may receive light to moderate rains with thunderstorms and lightning over the next five days. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely over Konkan and Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during June 20-24 and over Gujarat on June 20 and 23.

Rain situation in South India

On the other hand, Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, and Lakshadweep are likely to receive light to moderate rains with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speed reaching 30-40 kmph in the next five days. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may receive light rains in the next five days. Heavy to very heavy rains are also likely over Kerala and Mahe, coastal and south interior areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu during June 20 to 24, over north interior areas of Karnataka during June 22 to 24 and over Lakshadweep on June 22 and 23. Coastal areas of Karnataka may receive extremely heavy rainfall on June 22 and 23, while the same may occur over Konkan and Goa, Kerala and Mahe and south interior areas of Karnataka on June 23

When is it likely to rain in Central India

Light to moderate rains with thunderstorms, lightning and winds with speeds of 40-60 kmph are likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh in the next five days. Heavy rains are likely at some places over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on June 20 and 21 and over western Madhya Pradesh on June 22.

Monsoon advances towards North India

Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 kmph is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan today. Light to moderate rain is likely over Uttarakhand and East Uttar Pradesh during next seven days. Heavy rain is likely at some places over Uttarakhand on 23 and 24 June and over East Uttar Pradesh on 24 June. Strong winds with speed of 25-35 kmph are very likely over plains of Northwest India during next 24 hours.
