Kannada star Darshan Thoogudeepa has been arrested by the police in a murder case and has been sent to six days of police custody. The Bengaluru police detained Darshan from his Mysore farmhouse on June 11 and then questioned him. He is accused of being involved in the murder of Renuka Swamy, a resident of Chitradurga in Bengaluru. Renuka was accused of sending objectionable messages and obscene pictures to Darshan's close friend and actress Pavitra Gowda. Due to this, Renuka Swamy was murdered. This is not the first time that Darshan has been embroiled in a controversy. Darshan is among the top stars of Kannada cinema and has many hit films to his credit. He has won the Best Actor award not once or twice, but 9 times. But Darshan has also been in a lot of controversies. He has been in big trouble many times before. He was accused of beating his wife as well as possessing domestic property and illegal wild animals.

Renuka Swamy murder case: Kannada star Darshan sent to 6-day police custody, actress Pavitra Gowda also detained
1. He went to jail for beating his wife and threatening to kill her
In 2011, Darshan's wife Vijayalakshmi had accused Darshan Thoogudeepa of domestic violence and assault and lodged a complaint with the police. Darshan then had to remain in police custody for 14 days. A case was registered against Darshan under section 207 (threat to kill) of the IPC. However, his wife later withdrew the complaint. Darshan got bail, after which he publicly apologized to the fans. Darshan was accused of not only beating his wife but also threatening her with a revolver. In his defense, Darshan had said that his wife Vijayalakshmi has a lover and she lives with him.
2. Illegal keeping of wild animals, raids by forest officials
In 2018, Darshan, his friend Antony and actor Devaraj were embroiled in controversy when their SUV collided with a street light in North Mysore. Darshan's farm, located on the outskirts of Mysore district, was raided by forest officials on January 20, 2023, after a video clip showed Darshan talking about four Mongolian bar-headed ducks in his farm. Forest officials rescued the ducks from Darshan's clutches. The actor was accused of illegally keeping wild animals.

3. Dalit waiter was beaten badly, he lost vision in one eye
In the year 2021, Darshan was accused of misbehaving with a Dalit waiter in a hotel in Mysore. Director Indrajit Lankesh had claimed that Darshan had misbehaved with a Dalit waiter of Sandesh Hotel in Mysore. He, along with his friends, beat up the waiter badly, due to which he lost the vision of one eye. However, it was later revealed that Darshan had settled the matter with the waiter. He settled the matter by paying 50 thousand rupees.

4. Extramarital affair with Pavithra Gowda
Darshan has also been in the news due to his extra marital affair. He has had a 10-year-long relationship with actress Pavitra Gowda and they used to live together. Along with Darshan, Pavitra Gowda was also taken into custody in the Renuka Swamy murder case. Darshan expressed his love by sharing a video on social media on completing 10 years with Pavitra.
5. Controversial comment on the goddess of fortune
Darshan once got into trouble for making a controversial comment on the Goddess of Fortune. Then someone threw a slipper at him in an event full of people. Darshan gave a controversial statement in an interview in the year 2022, saying that the Goddess of Fortune does not knock on your door.
