In an announcement made on Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) disclosed its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Delhi and Haryana. This revelation follows the recent agreement between AAP and Congress on seat sharing, finalized just two days ago.

Kuldeep Kumar, an incumbent MLA from Kondli, has been selected as the AAP candidate for East Delhi, a constituency currently held by BJP’s Gautam Gambhir. Somnath Bharti, the MLA from Malviya Nagar and the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, has been nominated to represent New Delhi, a constituency presently under the BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi.

Mahabal Mishra, a former Congress MP from West Delhi, is making a bid for the same constituency on an AAP ticket. Having left the Congress several years ago, the 70-year-old leader, who has contested and lost in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, is eyeing the seat with a significant Purvanchali voter base.

Sahi Ram Pahalwan, the MLA from Tughlakabad, will be contesting for the South Delhi seat, currently held by BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.

In Haryana, AAP has put forth Sushil Gupta, a former Rajya Sabha MP, as its candidate for Kurukshetra. AAP had previously announced candidates for Assam and Gujarat.

Under the seat-sharing agreement, Congress will contest the North East Delhi, North West, and Chandni Chowk seats in Delhi. All three of these seats are presently held by the BJP in the Lok Sabha.

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw the BJP securing all seven seats in Delhi, as talks between Congress and AAP collapsed. In a notable development, AAP has also entered into a seat-sharing arrangement with the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, where the Congress will contest 17 seats, while the SP and its allies will contest the remaining 63 seats in the state that sends 80 members to the Lok Sabha.
