A few minutes of yoga nidra is equivalent to hours of sleep, what are the experts from IIT and AIIMS saying?


New Delhi: A report by Delhi's IIT and AIIMS has revealed the benefits of 'Yoga Nidra' through MRI. The process of conscious sleep, Yoga Nidra, has been known worldwide for its mental and physical health benefits for decades. For the first time, Indian researchers have done brain scans of people doing this ancient method. Brain scans were done through MRI which measures brain activity by tracking changes in blood circulation. Through this, an attempt was made to understand how it works. According to a study published in the International Journal of Scientific Reports, researchers from IIT Delhi, AIIMS Delhi and Mahajan Imaging found that a nervous system is activated during Yoga Nidra in meditators which gives them a different kind of relaxation. Scanning our brain has revealed that the Yoga Nidra technique calms our mind a lot.

Scientists have found that the brain of people doing yoga nidra works differently. When we think normally or do not think anything, a part of our brain is very active. But this part is less active in people doing yoga nidra. This gives them a lot of relaxation, but they also remain completely awake.

Dr. Harsh Mahajan (Chairman of Mahajan Imaging and Labs) said that this study shows that yoga nidra is very beneficial for our health. This is a very old yoga method. The study also showed that people who do yoga nidra, a special kind of nervous system gets activated in their brain which gives them peace.
