The Government of India gives gallantry awards to the armed forces personnel for their bravery and sacrifice. These awards are given twice a year on Republic Day and Independence Day. There are two categories of gallantry awards. The first is for those soldiers who face the enemies on the battlefield and the second is for those soldiers who are indirectly involved in the war. These gallantry awards remind us of the extraordinary sacrifices made by our soldiers. These honours remind us of their courage and dedication, who never hesitate to sacrifice their all for the security of the nation.
Gallantry awards are divided into two categories. The first category includes Param Vir Chakra, Mahavir Chakra and Vir Chakra. These honors are given to those soldiers who fight the enemies directly. The second category includes Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra. These awards are given to those soldiers and civilians who participate in the war but are not directly in the battlefield. The name of each medal is inscribed in both Hindi and English languages. The medal has two lotus flowers and the national emblem.
